Church

[revised lyrics to ‘Take me to church’]

My God’s got humor
He even giggles at a funeral
Doesn’t matter whose approval
I should have worshipped Him sooner

When the heavens did speak
He’s the one true mouth-piece
Every Sunday’s getting less bleak
A fresh sermon each week

‘We were born sick’
You heard them say it
My Church offers absolution
He tells me, ‘Wash up in any room.’

The only heaven I’ll be sent to
Is when I’m alone with You
I was born sick, but I own it
Command me to be well
Aaay Amen. Amen. Amen.

Take me to church
I’ll worship my God at the shrine where I died
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
